How to interpret:

<ul>
  • Bullish crossover: MACD crosses above the signal line
  • Bearish crossover: MACD crosses below the signal line
  • Signal strength: Crossovers further from zero are typically stronger
  • Confirmation: Look for price action to confirm crossover signals
  • Trading applications:

    • Entry signals: Bullish crossovers can signal buying opportunities
    • Exit signals: Bearish crossovers can signal selling opportunities
    • Trend following: Trade in direction of MACD relative to signal line
    • Filter: Combine with other indicators to confirm signals

    Important considerations:

    • Lagging indicator: Crossovers occur after price has already moved
    • False signals: Whipsaws common in ranging markets
    • Best in trends: Most effective during strong trending periods
    • Divergences: Divergence between price and MACD can precede reversals

    The MACD signal line smooths the MACD line and provides clearer trading signals than the raw MACD alone.
